MISSION

The connotation of our work originates from the understanding that most pastoral societies and groups are progressively loosing capacity to remain in open areas and to rely on alternative and innovative models for economic development, job creation and private sector investments.

APRI Group strives to bring the most comprehensive expertise on pastoralist and agro-pastoralist systems into quality applied research, studies and innovative approaches to inform policy, programs and practices to increase and mitigate the risk for communities characterized by high level of stresses and recurrent shocks.

The group is specialized in linking risk analysis and mitigation strategies to the African development agenda to achieve context-specific intervention designs, dedicated toward resilience building and investment for the economic growth in marginalized areas.

HOW AND WHERE

Global APRI occupies a unique place in the panorama of development experts through its inter-disciplinary focus on the relationship between Research, policy and practice. We do this by locking together applied research, studies, and innovative approaches to service delivery and investment in agro-pastoral, pastoral areas and livestock-dependent communities in arid and semi-arid lands. The group is specialized by its peculiar knowledge in conflict prone areas and fragile states. 

The Company is registered in Kenya and Uganda. It however, works with partners in the public and private sectors, in both Africa and Middle East countries.

Gender sensitive programming

  • APRI group has been sensitive to gender programming from company Directors where Aziza Okache Rashid (female) and Wamalwa Kinyanjui (male) hold equal shares; 50% to promote equality between men and women from inception.
  • No one gender holds more than 2/3 of employees in the workplace. Topics of gender equality are often top on the agendas of management forums, to ensure decision-makers follow the implementation of the defined policies and are responsible and committed to the success of their execution, monitoring and annual reporting of the indicators related to gender equality and throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Through internal and external publications (flyers and brochures), the company often promotes gender equality, warns against women violence, sexual harassment, intimidation, exploitation etc of either gender by the opposite sex.
  • Vulnerable women and youth among pastoral and agro-pastoral set-ups have been the main beneficiaries of previous and ongoing projects implemented by APRI Group, even though, the company has been promoting gender equality to contribute to a better balance between man and women at all levels.
